... OCD

Happy Sunday! I am getting ready to watch the season finale of Survivor (Go Russell!).  So I had plans to be super productive this weekend and get lots of layouts done HOWEVER I got a case of OCD and starting re-organizing my scrapbook supplies.  I have so many chipboard alpha's and a year ago I got the idea to sort all the alpha's by letter cause that would make it easier to find what I need.  This weekend I decided that it would be easier to have them sorted by color, like so many of my other things (like my brads and buttons!!!).  After a day of organizing, I got back into the swing of things today and completed 3 different layouts...

My first layout is titled WiNNERS and this is my take on the challenge at How Much Is Too Much.   The requirements were:
  • 12 Buttons
  • 1 Word Title
  • 1 Funky Border Strip or Punch
  • 9 Stickers (this can include your title alpha)
  • 7 Patterned Papers
  • 1 Stamp

This layout is for the SPCC Color Challenge using the ScrapRoom Blog sketch.  This is an emotional layout for me.  Four years ago, while working at Eastern Washington University, one of my students, Sara died in a tragic rafting accident.  Two of the hardest things I have ever done in my life is tell Sara's RA, JoBeth that she had died and then taking her parents to her room to pack up her things.  Sara was such a great person and this will be my way to remember her... Take a look

Lastly, I am just want to show off the layout I made for my boss.  She loves Wizard of Oz (just like myself) and I thought it would be fun to give her some art for her office.  I tried to use as many images that reflect the overall story... One of my favorite things is the tiny strips of black & white fabric I put at the bottom.  It is suppose to be the shriveled up legs of the Wicked Witch of the East.  Of course I love the ruby red slippers too!!!

That is all for now... Have a wonderful night.

... Christmas Movies!

I love Christmas! I love Christmas Music! AND I LOVE CHRISTMAS MOVIES!!! I tivo all those cheesy christmas movies on lifetime and the hallmark channel and watch throughout the month.  My sister and I went through all of our movies (we have 275+ movies) and found all the ones that celebrate Christmas and put the titles in a cup.  Every night when there is nothing to watch we pull a movie out and watch.  It has been nice to not have to make a decision about what movie to watch.  This got me thinking though... I definitely have my favorite movies.  So here are my top five favorite movies and can't live with outs during the holiday season.
  1. Christmas Vacation: This is my absolute favorite! I think this is what the holidays are really like for people... crazy things happen and from the outsider looking in they seem really funny but to you in the moment they are frustrating.  In the end though, you have to remember it's family and that's the true meaning of Christmas.  It's the little parts of this movie that still make me laugh... Clark reading a magazine in bed with sap on his hands, the way the daughter says pajama's when they are standing outside the house waiting for the lights to come on, the look that Clark give Eddy at the dining room table when Eddy believes that there was a report on the radio about Santa being spotted flying over the city, etc.  There are so many great moments.  It has become part of my Christmas tradition to watch it at least once every december!!!
  2. Rudolph, the Red Nosed-Reindeer: This movie makes me feel like a kid.  I remember how much I loved that little elf, Hermey.  I actually have a quite extensive collection of Hermey items.  For those of you that do not know Hermey... well he wants to be a dentist! I am surprised that I never wanted to be a dentist myself... maybe I will marry a blonde dentist (LOL).  Between Berl Ives singing Holly Jolly Christmas and Hermey pulling out all of Bumbles teeth, this movie is a christmas classic!!! If you haven't seen it in a while, you have to check it out.
  3. Love Actually: OMG... I love LOVE love this one too! My two favorite story lines are the father and the son and the prime minister and Natalie.  When Hugh Grant says, "ooooooh would we call her cubby?" or "of course you did you saucy mink", I fall in love with him all over again. This is a great movie for people with short attention spans... because the story line is always changing.
  4. ELF: "This is Buddy. What's your favorite color?" Will Ferrel is a comedy god!  You have to watch it to understand what a great movie it is.  If only everybody could have a great attitude like Buddy.
  5. Santa Clause: How can you not love Tim Allen turning into Santa Claus.  The idea that if Santa falls off the roof and hurts himself, whomever puts on the suit because Santa Claus is a great premise.  Although the movie is like 16 years old, totally worth watching again.  I also really enjoy the second one!!!
Well those are my favorites... what are yours?

... pressure

I am starting to feel better which is good because I have to go to work tomorrow.  I am suppose to be putting together a team building seminar at 9am and of course I am not ready.  But I am great under pressure! I have no doubt I will rock it out in the morning... tonight (instead of planning) I did a little scrapbooking.  I worked on a page dedicated to my little Markocina.  I met him when he was 17 and a freshmen in college.  He had lot of ideas and sometimes his energy was a little misguided but all he needed was some direction.  He tells me that I was one of those people who mentored him into the strong leader and man he is today.  I don't know if that is true but I sure do love this guy and all the fun memories we have acquired over the past 7 years.  I based this layout off of the awesome sketch from Pencil Lines!! Check out my take:

The little cut out man above my journaling was actually cut out by Mark... he thought it looked like him.  I use to have it on my computer screen because he would make me smile.  Night Night!

... feeling under the weather

It really sucks being sick.  I can't sleep cause I feel like I can't breathe and when I finally get motivated to do something, I get sleepy.  Despite being sick, I did a bit of scrapbooking.  Of course, one of the layouts took me at least five hours not because it is so technically hard but because I kept getting distracted.

My first layout is from a conference I attended in 2006 called NACURH.  When I was cleaning out some old boxes, I came across a plastic bag for some store called National something.  The bag was covered in N's and I thought it would be fun to use that on a page. I am really trying to repurpose things these days... it gives me the chance to be inventive and saves me money for other supplies like rub-on letters (have I mentioned I am obsessed -OBESESSED!! with rub-on alphabets).  Here is my take on the sketch from Sketchy Thursdays. I had planned to also do a layout based on the CreateItGreen sketch but once I finished this one, I felt like my layout could fit to both of these different sketchs.  I plan to send it in for the Create It Green Design Team Call.

I also worked on a layout with pictures from the day my best friend and I went dress shopping for her "Perfect" dress. The big poofy dress pictured at the top on the right side is the dress I picked out for her... she wouldn't even leave the dressing room, she hated it that much.  I kinda figured she would but as the maid of honor she told me I could pick out one dress and I wanted to pick something I knew she would never try on herself. If I have learned anything from watching Say Yes To The Dress is that sometimes the dress you least expect to like ends up being the one.  Of course for my bestie this was not the case.  When she had given up all hope, we went to a little boutique and found a dress that she liked.  Of course it was a size too small and it was the only one.  She tried it on just to see and it fit her perfectly... the moment she came out of that dressing room I could tell by the look on her face, it was the perfect dress.

That's all for now.  Wish me healthy days to come!!

...memories

As I have finally found time again to scrapbook on a regular basis, I am scrapbooking pictures from 4 years ago in the hope of catching up to the here and now.  One thing I love about being behind, is discovering moments I had forgotten.  This layout has pictures from a very early morning when I kidnapped my student staff from their warm beds and took them to breakfast at denny's at 6AM.  Looking at the pictures none of them were smiling (even though I am convinced they had so much fun) until I got to Shea.  There is where I got the idea to use Smile as the title and have the arrows pointing to her.  She was so happy to have a FREE breakfast and loved every minute of our adventure.

Anyway... this is my take of the sketch from Sketchy Thursdays.  Here is what I was working with...

First I imaged it upside down and then this came out...

I think my favorite part is the buttons because they are suppose to look like fried eggs.  Off to bed otherwise there will be no smiling before 6am here. Pin It

... insomnia

So I have a really bad habit of not sleeping.  I'm tired but I just can't sleep.  But at least I get more time to scrapbook.  Here is my Bold and Beautiful LO for Candy Shoppe Designs.  This was a fun one for me because I really had to stretch myself.  I usually really like my papers to match or at least compliment each other.  For this one I really took the whole 3 patterns that together you would normally think did not go together.  The yellow/orange paper I haven't used cause I really didn't like it but on this LO I look at it in a whole new way.  The picture is from my days as a hall director with my RA kids.  They had a saying, a staff that spoons together, stays together.  It was my inspiration.  I included some close ups of the little extras I put in.

I am also attaching my E.T. layout.  I am so proud of my fet finger.  I love that little alien!!!

That's all for now.  I am gonna go make myself sleep.  I have a long day tomorrow... and p.s. Biggest Loser is on.  Finale's are the best.  Love how they look in the end.

... weekend cleaning

I have been trying to get some cleaning done this weekend so that I could begin my christmas decorating. I did make time to do some scrapbooking though, of course.

My first layout was for the color challenge on SPCC.  I had to use lavendar, red, and white.  I had a lot of fun trying to use these colors in a creative way.  I love the red and white paper I used on this layout. I am so happy I bought two pieces!!

My next layout was for The Scraproom Blog and here I had to use a large circle as my primary design element.  Check out what I did here.

I am finishing up a couple tonight so stay tuned for some new lay outs!!! Pin It
