Okay so I am obsessed with The Hunger Games trilogy. If you haven’t read the books, you should and if you had read them then you know how awesome they are. I starting reading them this month and have already each book twice! Can’t wait for the movie to come out in March!!! I can’t believe it is 5 months away.

To show my obsessiveness with this book, I carved a mockingjay into my pumpkin tonight. I had a couple problems with keeping the shape so I added some toothpicks. Check it out… turned out pretty good I think.

… Where magic happens

As soon as I saw the sketch at Sketchy Thursdays, I knew what pictures to use. I took so many pics of the rides and scenery while at DisneyWorld but haven’t been able to figure out how to use them. I managed to get 10 pictures on one layout!!!! I used the red, white, and blue theme for Scrap Our Stash July challenge. The background paper had black mickey ears but I used royal blue smooch to give them a blue tint. I am also going to enter this in the Sketches in Thyme open sketch challenge.

We had a pretty bad day at work on Thursday so I decided to make a couple of cards to brighten spirits. First is for our intern. She is here from Ohio and is pretty much amazing. She has been working really hard and just wanted to tell her so!

And then for my boss… she has been dealing with a lot of drama, I did a play on the Wizard of Oz. This is one of her favorite movies and after seeing Julie Tucker-Wolek’s use of the new Oz papers, I felt inspired to make this card.

There really are not many bosses like her! Both of these will be entered in challenges for Birds of a Feather, this new shop and forum I found this week.

… Conquering the Rain

Here is another layout from the rainy day we experienced at Epcot Center. We should have known rain was coming from the storm-a-brewing above but that did not stop us from seeing Paris. We conquered that storm with our plastic poncho’s.

I “pagerized” Joni from Scrap Our Stash. I downscaled her layout and brightened it up with pinks and greens.

The ruffle at the bottom of the layout is crinkled tissue paper for the Punky Scraps challenge. I like how it turned out.

… sick on vacation

I hate it when I have vacation time and then I get sick :( It always seems to work that way. I had visions of scapping and sewing all weekend and instead I found myself sipping 7up, eating crackers, and drifting in and out of sleep for four days. Not my idea of a great vaca :( Anyway…. I did drag myself out of bed to do two layouts. I am not thrilled with either of them, probably cause I was feeling poopy but I thought I would post them nonetheless.

This first one, I used a piece of screen left over from my screening my sliding door for the first time process, to get a cool misting effect. There is a close up to see what I mean.

Next up is some goofy pictures of my sister from our first night at Magic Kingdom. We ate ice cream and then she went crazy! lol

It has been a busy weekend but I had a little time to make a card tonight. I made this for a student of mine that just graduated with a degree in art. I thought this went perfect with the challenge at These are a few of my favorite things about your favorite art. I heart Van Gogh especially starry night. I added some rhinestones and glitter to spruce up the artwork.

… stuck in Canada

Three summers ago my sister and I were at Disney World. It was our day to explore the countries at Epcot except the weather had other plans. We got stuck in a massive down pour while we were in Canada. We stayed in the Canada experience for a while and then decided to just have fun with it. These are pictures of my sister goofing off… the rain had stopped for like 10 minutes when we took these. The umbrella did not make it though the storm but it put up a good fight against the wind :) lol

I combined two challenges for this layout… First I used the sketch from Sketchabilities of course I had to flip the sketch…. i love to do that. Then I used the inspiration for the timeline effect from Kraft It Up. Also, I just have to point out that I did my first machine sewing on this layout. In my apartment I didn’t have the space to have my sewing machine out but now that I have house… I have the space! Couldn’t wait to use it.

It’s been like five months since I have posted anything and now I am back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am moved into my first home and I am finally get things put away. My craft room is finally set up which means I can scrapbook again!!!!!!!!!

… Can you believe it!

I have a couple can you believe it things! First, I found out my sister and I were approved for the house we bid on!!! I am going to be a homeowner!!!! I am super excited. But it is happening really fast. The house is ours March 1 which means the craziness is about to ensue. I may not be as active around the blog world towards the end of February and beginning of March.

Now on to my layout. This is my design team entry for XOXO as well as my take on the sketch at Sketchy Thursdays this week. The story behind this is I worked with Spencer, Spencer loved penguins, and my sister works with penguins, so for his birthday I took him to play with the penguins. One actually pooped on him :) lol There were so many pictures but these were my faves.

Where the heck did January go?! I am excited to say that I completed 21 projects this month! I think that is a record for sure!!!!!! I have two layouts for you here.

This week at Scrap It With A Song our song is “My Life Would Suck Without You”. I love this song, probably why I picked it :) For this layout I used the Scrappiest 100th Sketch for inspiration

As you can see I got a little crazy with the flowers. The black embellishment is this glittered snowflake that I bought at target. I had been trying to find a way to use it without if looking like a snowflake. I am thinking mission accomplished!!

For my second project, I actually hit a couple different challenges! I used the Scrappiest 101 Sketch and this picture prompt “Merry Go Round of Colour” at Creative Prompts for You. In addition to that, Paper Variety had a quote about friendship and that pushed my theme, a picture of me with my gal pals. If that wasn’t enough, Scrap Our Stash had a challenge of NEW and as I was going through my stamps, I remember I had bought the paper lantern stamp and had not used it yet. I think it added a nice, NEW touch.

My favorite part of this layout is the dolie. I used glimmer mist to give it the rainbow affect ad then to add a bit more, if you look closely I have added brads in the dolie to make the colors!

… Using up my Halloween supplies

I have done it! I used up all the halloween papers that I had stocked up on a few months ago. These layouts are again of my godson Beau. For his birthday, I told my best friend Heather I would do his first year album. Her favorite holiday is halloween so I really tried to play up the halloween!!

Scrap Jacked has an awesome challenge with amazing layouts this month. I had not planned to scrap jack all of them but after I had done 4, I made it a goal to try to do a version of them all. I have to say it has been so much fun!!!!

Here is my jack of Mel! I left the journal block empty so that Heather can fill it out. I have kinda become addicted to making the paper flowers. It took me a while to figure it out but now that I have I want to put them on every layout. LOL

Below is my take on Sarah’s layout. I tried to emulate the look of the frame with the thick black border. Instead of flowers and vines, I did the stitching like on frankensteins head.

Last but not least is my jack of Vicki. I liked the prominent circle and had this cute title die cut that fit it perfectly. I also wanted to change up the color a little and add some purple. All my other halloween layouts were just the green, orange, and black.

Now my count is up to 19 layouts this month!!! Thanks Scrap Jacked for all the inspiration. I can’t wait to see what you all come up with next month. ALSO thanks for all the great comments and love shared my way!!!!!

Scary Monster!!

I am so excited to be using up some of my Halloween papers. My besties favorite holiday is halloween so I wanted to really play up the halloween on these adorable pics of her little man. He really is scary cute!!! For both of these layouts I am using inspiration from ScrapJack January Challenge. For these two I am jacking from Lisa and Christine. With Lisa’s lo, I decided to go with a rectangle to change it up a bit.

With Christine’s instead of the clouds and bottom big scallops, I hand cut ghosts! I think they turned out pretty cute. Also this is the first time I have used a banner on a layout. They are the big thing right now but I just haven’t found a way to use one yet. These were square stickers that I cut into triangles.

Just cause I am so impressed with myself, I thought I would share. I have completed 16 layouts just this month. That has to be a record for me!!! At this rate I might actually get caught up!!!!!

I like to think I am really good with music lyrics. In fact, people are usually surprised how many songs I can remember the words to. This is one of those songs that although I sing it and know most of the words, I always manage to mess up part of it. The line in the song is “Laughing and a running” and for some reasons (probably because the line before has to do with playing), I always sing “laughing and a playing”. Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Last year on this day, I was in LA out in the rain protesting NBC pushing Conan out of his 11:35 time slot. Now Coco is back on the air and I am back to laughing regularly between the hours of 11pm and 12am. Are there any other Conan fans out there in the scrapbooking world?

This week at Scrap It With A Song, we are using inspiration from Sara Evan’s song Born to Fly. This is one of my faves. It was hard to narrow down what lyric I was gonna go with but when I saw this picture of my bf and her guys I knew that the “I love my folks” line was perfect! Although it is my design team layout for Scrap It With A Song, I was able to incorporate the Guest Designer Challenge from Sketchy Thursdays. Here is the sketch for this challenge:

Hope everyone’s holiday was festive. My sister and I got a flat tire on Christmas day. Nothing like being dressed up and changing a flat tire on the side of the road in the rain. Super fun!!! But hey it will be a Christmas memory for years to come :)

Merry Christmas!!!!! Welcome!!!!!

If you stopped by yesterday, you saw that I talked about saving wrapping paper to make Christmas Present tags. Here is another great use of Christmas wrapping paper… flower making.

I start with circles in two sizes. The more you cut the fuller the flower.

Once you have the circles cut you need to cut the circles like fringe.

Once you have them cut you will stack and glue them. Fluff up the fringe and add some flare to the middle. I like rhinestones. Now you have a fun flower you can add to your tags or maybe add to a christmas layout.

It’s Christmas Eve!! Where has the time gone?!! So at Scrap It With a Song we are doing a week of creativity!! I wanted to share with you something I have been doing the last few years.

After all of the presents have been opened, I always go through the paper and pick out pieces of my favorite papers and ribbons, like below.

I put the paper away with my christmas decorations and then in November I pull out the paper and use it to make tags for my presents. It makes me feel good for recycling and gives my packages a great handmade feel. Here is a sample of the tags I made this year. Everything was recycled from 2009!!

Day 1… My Paper Tree

Happy Monday!!!!!!!! Are you hear from SCRAP IT WITH A SONG? Hope you are all enjoying the holiday week!! I've been a bit sick so I am feeling way behind in shopping and gift wrapping. But back to the tree :)

I saw this in a magazine and thought, "I could make that" and now you can too!!!!!!!

STEP ONE: Cut Strips. Find your favorite patterned paper. You can use any color!! I went for the traditional green. My strips are about an inch wide.

STEP TWO: Cut the strips into smaller strips. I used fun scissors to add some flare but you can do what you fancy.

STEP THREE (optional and not pictures): Add ink to the edges. I decided to add some brown ink to the bottom edges to add some dimension but it's not necessary.

STEP FOUR: Curl the edges. This helps to give the fullness to the tree.

STEP FIVE: Layer and glue. I used hot glue over a Styrofoam cone (you can get these at michaels). Start at the bottom and glue layer by layer, overlapping the last so no white pokes through. Just make sure you have enough paper to cover the thing. I had cut my strips to long and almost didn't have enough to make it to the top. You can see from the second picture that my pieces got much smaller... I actually cut the big ones in half.

STEP SIX: Embellish!!! This is where you make your tree your very own. I found this great silver fringe ribbon that I added between layers to look like tinsel and then added rhinestones to look like ornaments.

STEP SEVEN: Top and Bottom. For the top, I used a giant rhinestone brad but you could cover it in paper. you could add a star. Anything you want. For the bottom, I took half of a toilet paper roll and sprayed it with glimmer mist and hot glued it to the bottom!!

This week at Scrap It With A Song we have the song “Lucky” by Jason Mraz. This is a pic of me and my best friend Heather. This was taken the day before she got married and it is one of my favorites.

Heather and I met… gosh 17 years ago. We both played the clarinet and met at marching band practice for our state fair (The Montana State Fair to be exact). She had just moved to Billings and me being the social butterfly took it upon myself to become her friend. The first day of high school, she had totally forgot my name but I forgave her and we have been friends ever since. We went to college together and I am godmother to her gorgeous baby boy. If you have been to my blog you have seen his picture tons of times cause that is what a majority of my pages are about these days. She is truly a sister to me!!

Oh it is a sad night… my camera died tonight :( I had hoped to show fun pictures of some of the projects I have been up to and some of the goodies I made for my etsy shop but nothing :(

So I have been exposed as a non-speller. I have been suffering from the lack of correct spelling since I was a child. It was something that in my adult life I had thought I overcame and then today when i was cropping my next layout, i discovered that i am still inflicted. Let's see if you notice... it is pretty obvious.

This is my entry for These are a Few of My Favorite... Fictional Characters. I couldn't just pick one so I picked 9 and that was even hard. There were quite a few that almost made the cut! Here is what I picked:

Anne of Green Gables ( I love the PBS Movie and Megan Follows!!!)
The Office Cast (I adore these characters and like to think I am a little bit Michael and a little bit Jim!)

… that special thing

Just when I thought things were slowing down at work… I remember that October brings inspections. My job is always changing. Some months I feel like all I do is administrative tasks but for the month of October I feel like all I do is inspect college residences’ with fire and environmental health & safety officers to make sure the students are safe. If you just got bored reading this… IMAGINE how boring it is to do :) LOL!!!!!!! In reality it’s a good thing cause I work to make sure students are safe but boy I can’t wait ‘til November!!

BEHIND THE LAYOUT: Almost four years ago, my bestie got married!!! I have had the pictures laying around trying to get inspired to scrap her magical day. When I saw the sketch at Inspired Blueprints (which I just stumbled upon a few days ago) I knew it would be a great way for me to add multiple photos to one layout… I have probably 50 pictures from her wedding AT LEAST. I tried to use some of the important moments on this one layout. I also used the song inspiration from Scrapping the Music for the title… THAT SPECIAL THING. The song this week is flying without wing by westlife… I have to be honest I had never heard this song before but it was great!!! Hope you like it!!

... I have a confession... I have been MIA the last two weeks. Thanks goodness for auto posting cause I was able to keep my blog updated without being around. Work has been insane!!!!! I work at UC Davis and it was move in time and whenever the new students arrive it is hectic. But I am BACK!!!!! I got lots of sleep and even did a few layouts the last couple of days.

This first layout I call... I Carry Your Heart. It is for These Are a few of my favorite poems. I adore this poem and it always makes me think of my sister Sarah. If you have ever seen In Her Shoes this is the poem Cameron Diaz recites at Toni Collettes Wedding. This story of two sisters is like my sister and I's story minus the sister not knowing how to read and her sleeping with my boyfriend thing :) My sister is pretty smart and not slutty at all :) Lol Anyway... we have a great connection and sometimes I feel like I would not be whole without her. This is my favorite picture of the two of us when we were little in the bath tub together playing with the bubbles. The poem is by E. E. Cummings in case you wanted to know!! I also used a template for the strip of pictures for the Scrapbookers Anonymous challenge!!!!!

I also did another layout and this one used the Pagerize This challenge from Scrap Our Stash and Joni. I loved the layout she did so I turned it on it's side and changed up the colors a little!!

I promise to be more active now that the busyness is done... of course I am posting this blog at work cause I am still inundated with emails from my two days off!!!!!!! Here's to hoping I head home soon!!!!!!

Ahhh Daddy and Beau are going for a ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gosh that baby is cute…. sorry I got sidetracked by his cuteness! So I noticed the cars on the… well I don’t know what to call that… a carrier?? well whatever it is, it has cars on it so I designed one I could cut on my cricut. Yeah I can do that!!! If you wanna use the car svg you can get it below. This of course if for the Scrap it with a song weekly challenge and this week it was one of my faves… Rascal Flatts! Another weekly dose of my DT submission for Scrap it with a song. Who doesn’t love Rob Thomas? My friend married Rob Thomas two years ago… of course it wasn’t “thee” Rob Thomas just some guy with the same name and no he can’t sing. Its a shame :) lol. Anyway… great song to play with this week… Little Wonders. For mine I used pics of Baby Beau (I know… BIG Surprise… but I have a lot of catching up to do) and dropped the S from wonders to get “Little Wonder” cause that’s' what he is! I used the new boarder punch my sis bought me for my b-day last month. I don’t have a lot of punches but was determined to use this one! And use it I did!!!!!!!! This week for Scrap It With a Song the song is Upside Down by Jack Johnson. My godson has been very curious these days so that line in this song really stuck out to me! I added the elephant and lion because well my bestie is obsessed with putting her son in animal gear. Better to see you with!! Better to see this layout!! I adored the sketch featured at ScrapFIT and loved that I got to pull out some scraps that I have saved up. Now I am not a card maker so the next two photo’s might shock you… I am shocked!! I made not only one but two cards tonight in response to ScrapFIT’s Mini Workout #3. The goal was to use scraps from my previous workout and that is exactly what I did. I actually need two thank you cards for two girls at work who really helped me out this week. Hi Hi!! Friday I got my shipment of 6 new glimmer mists… I am new to glimmer mist and couldn’t wait to use some of them. This is another adorable picture of my godson, Beau to add to his photo album that I am making to document his first year! My bestie sent me this picture after he rolled over all by himself for the first time. He looks so cute.

The prompt came from Scrap That Baby. I stumbled upon there blog last weekend when they were hosting a blog hop. The prompt was Step by Step… showing some baby movement. It also caught my eye cause of the reference to NKOTB! I love New Kids!! I used the really fun sketch from Sketchy Thursdays because as soon as I saw the circles I knew I could pull out my new glimmer mist to help make the circles!!!

I love this picture of my godson… he is so adorable!!!! I struggled though to come up with a title and then it came to me. I had a lot of fun with this one… I used some recycled magazine pages rolled up to form a strip along the bottom. I took a little break from scrappin’ this weekend cause it was my birthday!!! Yeah!!!!! Last night feeling very productive, I got through 2 layouts!!!!

The first is for From Screen 2 Scraps. The challenge is to use the movie poster from Juno. You need to think stripes, handmade title, and new baby’s!! Here is my layout that I call Proud Papa! I had a lot of fun with this one. I think my favorite part is the green ribbon around the blue matt… I was thinking Paulie Bleeckers headband from the poster!!

For the second layout, I was inspired by the Scrap That Poetry challenge using the Edgar Alan Poe Poem Annabelle Lee. I loved the line “we loved with a love that is way more than love”. I thought it was perfect for this next layout.

I am back off to my craft station to see if I can work on another layout tonight!!!

Tonight I sat down to a picture of my god son with this gorgeous smiles on his face. It’s one of his first and he just looks so happy… and that’s when I decided I would use this picture for the Scrapping the Music Shiny Happy People Challenge! Hi all... long time no blogging. While I was attending my relaxing conference two weeks ago, I was exposed to the H1N1 virus.... oh hooray!!!!! :( So needless to say, I have been sick and not really up for crafting or blogging. This weekend though I got back into the swing of things.

ScrapFIT has a challenge going on using 1-3 handmade embellishments. I made the flowers on this layout. I love making these flowers... I use them on everything!!!!!!!! I try to use lots of different types of fabric to get cool affects. The glimmery blue fabric I got for super cheap cause it was a remanent piece!Hope you like!!!!!!

…conference & relaxing time

For the past 5 days I have been at a conference at Stanford University. Beautiful campus but too much walking… i am beat! It was nice to get some down time though. When I am at home I can do whatever and usually find myself at my craft station 90% of the time. Here though I was limited to what I brought with me which was not much. My cat Rory loves to get in my shoes. As soon as I get home from work and kick off my shoes she jumps in them. It is the strangest thing!! While I was in my closet trying to pick out my fav’s for the These Are a Few Of My Favorite Things challenge on Favorite Shoes, I looked over and caught Rory in my purple flip flops. I couldn’t help but take the opportunity to scrap from her perspective. So my favorite shoes are any pair my baby decides to lay on and it seems all my shoes are her favorite. Hope you enjoy!!!

When one of my RA's left our staff of sixteen, we were forced to pick someone new. I didn't want the RA's to think that we were replacing the last person but instead adding someone new to our crew. We then became a staff of seventeen... strongER!! Here is my thoughts on the HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH challenge!! I had fun but have been having some technical problems so I hope they will except it a touch late!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My title is 17 letters long and there are 43 items on the page (not including the 17 letters). There are 5 rub-on's, 8 buttons, 9 pieces of paper, 17 pictures, 1 flower, a W, a bingo piece, and marker (on number 17)!!!!!!!!!!!

…. My Sister’s Keeper

I am in love with the book My Sister’s Keeper. As far back as I can remember, I have always claimed to not be a big reader but this book changed my mind. When These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things put out their Fav. Book challenge I knew My Sister’s Keeper would be the center of my LO. On my page I tried out a technique that I had read about years ago. You print out a picture from your printer on regular paper, put clear packing tape on the top of the picture, and then soak the back of the paper with water. After a few minutes you rub off all the white paper and you get a transparency of the image you printed with a glossy look.

The title… It’s Raining. is from the book. All of the characters began a chapter with this exact line so it seemed fitting to also include in the lo. I also added the last line of the book in the right bottom corner… i take her with me, wherever i go.

Hey Hey Hey!!! I feel like it has been forever since I actually sat down and did some scrapbooking. I was working on my Create It Green Design Team layout and decided to use the great sketch from over at Sketchy Thursdays and loved the color scheme from Candy Shoppe Designs (they have a great challenge going on called Cotton Candy with a great prize from Magpie Club!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)… so I put them all together and this is the awesome layout I got!

I used this rockin’ pink eco friendly mesh from a company Nashville Wraps. It is definitely a new fav!!!!! I also recycled some tulle scraps and the fleur de lis tooth pick from the bottom of one of my kitchen drawers. Peace Out!

I went to Chico this last weekend and came home with a new addition to my apartment... Manny!!! I found this guy for $5.00 and had to have him. He was painted a marble grey but I think the black really suits him. My friend suggested the name Manny and it is growing on me. CIG Earth Day Blog Hop… Day 4

Hello Hello!!

Today is the last day of the CIG Earth Day Blog Hop. If you just ended up here, make sure you go back to the beginning of the hop at Create It Green.

Today I have a craft non-scrapbook related. I read about this years ago and with the kick of recycled bags, I thought it was the perfect idea for Earth Day. I am going to show you how to make your own bags to bring to the grocery store. All you need is a T-SHIRT and sewing machine.

STEP 1: Cut off the sleeves… it is best to keep the the seam to reinforce the bag

STEP 2: Cut the top out… I use a plate as a guide.

STEP 3: Sew the bottom… turn the shirt inside out and pin. Because I wanted to make the bag wider at the bottom I pin the sides in see the second picture. But you can also just sew it straight across.

STEP 4: You’re DONE!!!… Turn it right side out and you have a new bag to take to the store.

This is a great way to start being Green today!!!!

Today’s layout I call 18… cause well there are 18 of us. Back in the day (like a year ago), I was a professional residence hall live-in staff member and my job was to live in a dorm with 544 freshmen and supervise 16 RA’s. This was my 5th staff but first at Chico State and I felt very LUCKY to get such a great group of RA’s.

My “Green” element here is the brackets. The brackets were actually part of packaging for some item I bought (can’t remember what cause it was a while ago) but I remember thinking “I could use these” and then threw them in my R&R (Recycled or Repurposed) drawer… that’s right I have a whole drawer of goodies. Now I would like to point out that almost every thing with the exception of the base paper, the LUCKY bingo card, the rhinestones, and the paperclip around 18 were scraps from other projects. I think it can be a fun challenge to use only leftovers to create something awesome. I also think this goes right along with Earth Day in that I try to use everything I have and not waste even those little pieces of paper.

I am used the adorable earth digital stamp that Meljen Designs graciously made for us. I had some scraps left over that I used for the folded design element on the side.

My second card might look a little familiar because I used the same background for the blinkies I made. The card itself is made from the Green Field Paper Company with paper from an old 1950’s encyclopedia and a globe from a 1964 atlas I had. I like this one a lot!!

Now on to my project… I recently bought a cute top from Target and when I pulled off the tag it caught my eye. It was super colorful and I thought, “hey I could use this as an embellishment!” So here I used it to describe my staff a couple of years ago. We did a crazy scavenger hunt through town and they had so much ENERGY… So here’s a tip, before you toss out all those tags from your new clothes, you may find something worth hanging on to!! Forever 21 one has a pretty great one with a pink and yellow flower! Also the lettering is on the awesome recycled paper from Green Field Paper Company. Check them out.

I love April fools day... but I forgot it was today :( I usually have pranks planned and go over the top and it totally slipped my mind. To be honest, I am stressing. Normally I would scrapbook to destress but I haven't the time. Last weekend I went to LA with my sister to a Supernatural Convention... like those old time Star Trek Conventions only this was all about the show Supernatural. It was fun and I was so excited my sister got her picture taken with Jared Padalecki who she adores!!

Once I got back I realized that I am going back to LA this weekend for my Biggest Loser audition... and boy am I nervous. Last night I had a mini panic attack I think. I am a rational person. I know that the likelihood of me getting on the show is VERY small but up until last night I had myself convinced that they were picking me for sure! Last night however the insecurities kicked in and I realized that is not going to happen. Now there is still that one in a million chance but for some reason this positive girl is having a bad attitude about the whole thing. I know I will snap out of it for Saturday but until then, I am stressing.

I bought my cricut this weekend and I LOVE IT!!! I splurged and bought the special pink one from Michaels. She's gorgeous and cuts great!!!. I got a few layouts done today... check 'em out.

The first is based on the sketch at Sketchy Thursdays while using the requirements from the Scrapfit Workout 16. This is the first impression I had of Spencer on our first day of working together. His battery died at the Social Security Office and then once I came and gave him a jump, he locked his keys in his car. Needless to say it was an interesting start to our friendship. No one makes an impression like Spencer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The next layout uses the Green color theme from Candy Shoppe Designs and answers the question of my favorite drink from These are a few of my favorite things. As you can see from the layout... any drink with friends is my favorite!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For this part of the layout, I used little cut out letters from magazines. It took a little while to find all the letters with a green flare but I managed to pull it off. On both layouts you can see that I used my new cricut alphabet for the lettering. I couldn't imagine not using it for something on each layout!!!

OMG!!!!!! I am so excited!!!! I have decided to buy the Cricut Expression!!!!!!!!!! I have never had one before and for the past three years have thought about it every time I go to Michael's... and I go to Michael's a lot. I have always thought it would be so expensive with all of the different cartridges I would want... so instead I just cut things myself. Me and my exacto knife have become besties!!!!! But then I read about Sure Cuts A Lot and the fact that I could cut any font or dingbat I have on my computer... done and done. I sold the Sizzix Side kick and the two fonts my mom bought me like four years ago for Christmas and I got a $100 gift card for doing a health assessment for my insurance company... so that should help me fund my new purchase. I am torn between ordering it on line for like 20 bucks cheaper or buying the pink one at Michael's... I LOVE pink but I also love $20!!!!!

Anyway... I found the most amazing websites of free svg. files. These people are truly gifted. I can't wait to get SCAL and use these files... check them out:

I have been working on my best friends baby album for her precious little boy. Without even noticing I have been keeping the color palate to blue, green, and a touch of yellow. Tonight, I reached my blue limit. I tend to use a lot of different colors and especially pink and reds and all of my pages recently have been void of that. Not anymore. I saw the challenge at 52x52 to use pink, blue, and stripes. I happen to love using stripes and of course L.O.V.E. pink. But my challenge was how to use pink on a baby boy's page. I hunted through all my paper until I found one that was striped and had both blue and pink! Here is what I came up with... hope you like!!!!!!Also the "It's a Boy" Balloon on the page is a vintage (1957) baby announcement. I found it at a rummage sale and bought this and a bunch more for only 5 cents each. Crazy!!! Have a good one.

I have been MIA this week and my reason is that I have been busy working on my biggest loser casting tape. I decided that I want to try out for the show and talked my sister in law to helping me film. I thought it would be really easy to do but it is a lot harder than I thought to come up ways to be creative.

They suggest sending in pictures of yourself and the light bulb when on. I was planning on creating a layout for Scrap Fit's ALL ABOUT ME challenge and I thought this could be my creative way to send in my pictures. Also under each picture is journaling describing my weight and why I included the picture. Check it out...

My best friend just had a beautiful baby boy this month and my gift to her and her husband is to make a scrapbook of his first year of life. She labels herself as not crafty so I thought it would be a unique gift that no one else could really give them. This weekend I did a little work on some of their page.

My first layout is for How Much Is Too Much, where the challenge was a stitch in time saves 9... here is my go
I used faux stitching (cause I don't using stitching on my pages usually) and I used 9 different items that include: patterned paper, cardstock, buttons, rub-ons, ric rac, stickers, white poster pen, brads, colored pencil.

I then took on the Sketchy Thursdays sketch.

Not bad for a Sunday afternoon. Can't wait to send these off tomorrow. I hope my bestie will love them!!!

I have tons and I mean tons of random alphabet letters. I seem to collect alphabets... however once you have used a set once or twice it becomes really hard to use them again. I find myself trying to construct a title only to find that I am missing two crucial letters. Then I spend 20 minutes trying to figure out what title I can make with the remaining letters. And it's not like there are not still good letters. They are just not the letters you wish they could be. For instance in the LO below, I had planned to write ERICA in the orange polka dots... but wouldn't you know it I had all the letters but that darn A. That A was taunting me... but then I thought out of my box and decided to use a mix of these alphabets I seem to collect. I think it looks really fun!!! A lot better than the all orange title would have looked.

What I have started doing now is saving all those random letters in one big bag and whenever I need to jazz up a page like this I pull them out.

I know that I have mentioned before that I have a new etsy store. I am a shopaholic and have way more scrapbooking stuff that any one person should have so I have started to use my items and acquire new ones to make awesome kits. Check them out if you have time. I also have mini versions (and by mini I mean like 400+ letters) of my own random letter bag there to!!!

Today is my best friend Heather's birthday! She would hate for me to say how old she is but lets just say she is a year older than me and I am 30 :) I am a terrible friend in that her birthday presents are still sitting on my bedroom floor. Sad day. Most of my family and a lot of my closest friends all seem to be born within January to March. Because they are all so jumbled together it seems I am always late for one and this year it was Heather. Funny how it works that way. Well just want to wish Heather a Happy Birthday!!! My wonderful wishes and love will have to be gift enough today... until at least my presents get to her next week.

Call me competitive but I love watching the Olympics and I especially love watching America win metals. I feel such pride when I see the american flag flying high. I can not image what it is like for an olympian. They train their whole lives for this and only three can "win". It is so sad for those that fall or make big mistakes because unfortunately for them a do-over opportunity doesn't happen for four more years. However for those that do metal, it must feel so rewarding to know that all that work and all that sacrifice was worth it. In another life I would have wanted to be an ice skater.

If you haven't seen Big Bang Theory yet, you are truly missing out especially if you know and love a geeky person or you yourself claim to be a nerd. My sister, our two friends, and I made a road trip down to LA just to get to see a live taping of the show. It was even funnier in person, if that is even possible.

I have been to three tapings of Conan's show (once at late night when he was in san fran and twice on the tonight show) but I have never experienced a sitcom. The talk show style is in real time meaning it lasts a little over the hour you see on tv... there really are not too many extras happening. BUT with a sitcom we were there for at least 3 1/2 hours. For every scene you see on the show, they filmed it at least twice if not more. And what is even more special is seeing all the different jokes they will try. Now I can't wait to see what they actually use.

It was so interesting seeing how many people touch the actors in between shots. Sheldon (played by Jim Parsons) was rehearsing his lines during a break as a costume person was tucking in her shirt in the back and rubbing a lint brush all over him. It didn't even seem to phase him.

Well I don't want to give away any of the plot line because that's no fun for any of the fans. I will say the show I saw was called The Metal Resistance and I agree with Sheldon... Why wasn't William Shatner in Star Trek (2009)? It's a question we should all be asking. LOL. Believe it or not, in my group I am Penny... mostly because I am not really a nerd however I am friends with the nerds and it rubs off on me!!!

Just remember... it all started with a BIG BANG!

Valentines day is such an interesting holiday to me. Being that I do not have a significant other to expect flowers and chocolate from, I wonder what it is that I am suppose to do with this day. My sister and I joked that we ought to go see VALENTINES DAY (the movie) tomorrow night and maybe go to an expensive restaurant without a reservation for dinner as though it may be any other day. Of course I would not be caught dead near any movie theater, restaurant, or basically any place that couples may congregate. I would like to note that this is not because I am anti-love... I enjoy romantic comedies and the thought of being in love... instead I despise the thought that only one day of the year you are suppose to publicly display your love. I despise that people feel obligated to buy gifts and shower the one they love with attention. See I think if you are truly in love, you should want to do those things everyday and not need the excuse of a holiday to remind you. Now I know that there are those who do these things everyday but still enjoy the allure of Valentines Day too and that is fine by me... I just feel very sad for those that think because their significant other gave them flowers or wrote them a nice poem on Feb. 14 that they can ignore the idea of romance the rest of the year.

Maybe I am a bit cynical... chalk it up to someone who celebrates Single Awareness Day regularly.

So it's been awhile. I'd like to say I had some great reason for not posting anything in like four weeks but the truth is I just wasn't motivated to. I started to get busy and didn't make it a priority and just as easy as it is to get into the habit of posting, it was equally easy to get OUT of the habit of posting. Instead I preoccupied my time with starting my own Etsy business A Little Dash of This & That... SIDENOTE: I have some fun stuff so you should check it out. I have already had some sales... one in Finland so I can call myself an international business owner :) Now that is up and running and I have re-motivated myself, I am going to make blogging a habit again.

My next project/goal is to get more followers... I think if I had more people out there then I would be more apt to take a few minutes to update my blog. Thanks to all of you already out there!!! SO I am going to be putting together some blog candy to entice people to join my page... look for that this weekend. My goal is by March 15 to have 45 followers. I think I can do it!!

The Chin has got to go go... I want CoCo!

I cannot believe this ridiculousness. Conan was given the Tonight Show because he earned it. He put in his time and this was the next step for him. Jay was given an unjust opportunity to stay on and try something new AND it failed. BIG TIME. Do the math. If Jay wasn't getting viewers at 10pm and the affiliates weren't getting viewers at 11pm (which is why they want to make this lineup change), then of course Conan wouldn't be getting more viewers at 11:35pm. It took Jay years to get the ratings he did on the tonight show so why is Conan only getting 7 months. I think the fact that Conan has said he will not move to 12:05 is very classy. He is not only thinking of himself and the big slap in the face that gives him but what that does to the Tonight Show and Jimmy Fallon on Late Night. Of course Jay could careless who this affects anyone but himself. I am completely biased here. I have NEVER like Jay Leno. As a kid I remember watching that movie about the Jay and David Letterman drama and I always thought Jay was a slime bucket. This is a lot like when NBC screwed over David Letterman... obviously NBC doesn't know funny men when they have them. Well where ever Conan goes, I will follow. I was able to see him in San Fran while hosting Late Night and I also was there for his second night of the Tonight Show where he got his infamous nickname "CoCo". I am going to try to get tickets before Feb. 12 in preparation for the inevitable end of the Tonight Show as we know it. I want CoCo!!!!

Hello Hello 2010! I have been a bit MIA enjoying my vacation from "real life". I did take time to reminisce the past year and of course took some time to scrapbook!!

There are my top 5 moments of 2009

Turning 30! enough said!
Graduating from Chico State with my MBA (Masters in Business Administration)... it seemed to take forever but it was all worth it!
Moved into my first apartment! I know this sounds crazy after seeing number 1 but my job has always required me to live in a residence hall apartment. For the past 8 years I have been a professional live in staff member who runs the day to day operations of a college dorm, supervises the staff, and keeps the students from getting into too much trouble. Basically when I went off to college in 1997, i had lived in a dorm ever since.
I got a new job... hence moving into an apartment where I have to pay rent and utilities. Crazy but I love it!!
Lost 50 lbs!! I still have a long way to go until I get to my goal weight but hitting the first 50 was a huge milestone.

Now on to the scrapbooking... here are two layouts I did this weekend. This first one, that I titled the Many Faces of Paul is my entry for How Much is Too Much. The challenge was to use 22 circles... Paul is obsessed with Coldplay and the song Clocks so I decided to make 22 clocks... If you look at the two close up pictures you can see them all. I tried to make them all different sizes, styles, and colors. I wont lie it was a lot of fun creating all the clocks.... I did actually cut out two from a magazine and use them on the page as well.
I had finished scrapbooking my Dressler staff and found these four pictures i love that had not found a home on any other page so I decided to put them together. I also wanted to make the title pop and I had these thumbnail images that came with my digital prints I had ordered online. I had held on to them in case I came up with a use for them and did I... it took some time to get them to all fit on the BIG but I think it looks really cool. This layout is for the Scrap Room Blog Challenge #52.

Lastly, I used the invitation for the wedding to create this layout of my friend and former RA, Roxy's wedding. The red box with love written in multiple languages, the flowers, and bride and groom on the O of LOVE were all elements from the invitation.... of course I forgot to take a picture of it before I tore it apart so you'll have to take my work for it.
Well that is that. Goodbye 2009! I look forward to a great new year!!!!

Happy Sunday! I am getting ready to watch the season finale of Survivor (Go Russell!). So I had plans to be super productive this weekend and get lots of layouts done HOWEVER I got a case of OCD and starting re-organizing my scrapbook supplies. I have so many chipboard alpha's and a year ago I got the idea to sort all the alpha's by letter cause that would make it easier to find what I need. This weekend I decided that it would be easier to have them sorted by color, like so many of my other things (like my brads and buttons!!!). After a day of organizing, I got back into the swing of things today and completed 3 different layouts...

My first layout is titled WiNNERS and this is my take on the challenge at How Much Is Too Much. The requirements were:

12 Buttons
1 Word Title
1 Funky Border Strip or Punch
9 Stickers (this can include your title alpha)
7 Patterned Papers
1 Stamp

This layout is for the SPCC Color Challenge using the ScrapRoom Blog sketch. This is an emotional layout for me. Four years ago, while working at Eastern Washington University, one of my students, Sara died in a tragic rafting accident. Two of the hardest things I have ever done in my life is tell Sara's RA, JoBeth that she had died and then taking her parents to her room to pack up her things. Sara was such a great person and this will be my way to remember her... Take a look

Lastly, I am just want to show off the layout I made for my boss. She loves Wizard of Oz (just like myself) and I thought it would be fun to give her some art for her office. I tried to use as many images that reflect the overall story... One of my favorite things is the tiny strips of black & white fabric I put at the bottom. It is suppose to be the shriveled up legs of the Wicked Witch of the East. Of course I love the ruby red slippers too!!!

... Christmas Movies!

I love Christmas! I love Christmas Music! AND I LOVE CHRISTMAS MOVIES!!! I tivo all those cheesy christmas movies on lifetime and the hallmark channel and watch throughout the month. My sister and I went through all of our movies (we have 275+ movies) and found all the ones that celebrate Christmas and put the titles in a cup. Every night when there is nothing to watch we pull a movie out and watch. It has been nice to not have to make a decision about what movie to watch. This got me thinking though... I definitely have my favorite movies. So here are my top five favorite movies and can't live with outs during the holiday season.

Christmas Vacation: This is my absolute favorite! I think this is what the holidays are really like for people... crazy things happen and from the outsider looking in they seem really funny but to you in the moment they are frustrating. In the end though, you have to remember it's family and that's the true meaning of Christmas. It's the little parts of this movie that still make me laugh... Clark reading a magazine in bed with sap on his hands, the way the daughter says pajama's when they are standing outside the house waiting for the lights to come on, the look that Clark give Eddy at the dining room table when Eddy believes that there was a report on the radio about Santa being spotted flying over the city, etc. There are so many great moments. It has become part of my Christmas tradition to watch it at least once every december!!!
Rudolph, the Red Nosed-Reindeer: This movie makes me feel like a kid. I remember how much I loved that little elf, Hermey. I actually have a quite extensive collection of Hermey items. For those of you that do not know Hermey... well he wants to be a dentist! I am surprised that I never wanted to be a dentist myself... maybe I will marry a blonde dentist (LOL). Between Berl Ives singing Holly Jolly Christmas and Hermey pulling out all of Bumbles teeth, this movie is a christmas classic!!! If you haven't seen it in a while, you have to check it out.
Love Actually: OMG... I love LOVE love this one too! My two favorite story lines are the father and the son and the prime minister and Natalie. When Hugh Grant says, "ooooooh would we call her cubby?" or "of course you did you saucy mink", I fall in love with him all over again. This is a great movie for people with short attention spans... because the story line is always changing.
ELF: "This is Buddy. What's your favorite color?" Will Ferrel is a comedy god! You have to watch it to understand what a great movie it is. If only everybody could have a great attitude like Buddy.
Santa Clause: How can you not love Tim Allen turning into Santa Claus. The idea that if Santa falls off the roof and hurts himself, whomever puts on the suit because Santa Claus is a great premise. Although the movie is like 16 years old, totally worth watching again. I also really enjoy the second one!!!

I am starting to feel better which is good because I have to go to work tomorrow. I am suppose to be putting together a team building seminar at 9am and of course I am not ready. But I am great under pressure! I have no doubt I will rock it out in the morning... tonight (instead of planning) I did a little scrapbooking. I worked on a page dedicated to my little Markocina. I met him when he was 17 and a freshmen in college. He had lot of ideas and sometimes his energy was a little misguided but all he needed was some direction. He tells me that I was one of those people who mentored him into the strong leader and man he is today. I don't know if that is true but I sure do love this guy and all the fun memories we have acquired over the past 7 years. I based this layout off of the awesome sketch from Pencil Lines!! The little cut out man above my journaling was actually cut out by Mark... he thought it looked like him. I use to have it on my computer screen because he would make me smile. Night Night!
